Strong Start, Kerrigan Goals, Lift Women's Soccer to 3-2 Victory at NYIT

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team earned its second straight victory on the strength of a 3-2 East Coast Conference triumph at New York Institute of Technology. Kathryn Kerrigan netted two goals to lift the Lady Spartans to victory as STAC improved to 5-10 overalll and 2-6 in the ECC, with NYIT falling to 5-10-1, 0-8.

Lindsey Sansone continued to wield the scorer's touch for the Lady Spartans, netting her team-leading 10th goal of the season just 7:30 into the action. Kerrigan scored the next two, at 34:20 and 44:15, to give the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead just before the half.

Though the first half shots were even at 6-6, NYIT came out motivated in the second half, outshooting the Lady Spartans by a 10-1 margin over the last 45 minutes. That resulted Taylor Casey breaking the shutout at 76:25, and making the finish interesting with her second of the game at 88:44.

Courtney Dumain would not let any further goals past, making seven saves in earning her second win of the season. NYIT held a 16-7 lead in shots overall.

The Lady Spartans wrap up the 2015 season on Saturday, October 31, hosting LIU Post in an East Coast Conference contest. Game time is 12:00 noon, and the game will be the front end of a double header, with the men's teams playing at 3:00.
