Sansone's Two Goals Lift Women's Soccer to 3-0 Victory over Queens

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team stormed to a 3-0 victory over Queens College in an East Coast Conference game at Spartan Field. Lindsey Sansone netted a pair of goals in the win as the Lady Spartans improved to 3-6-0 overall and 1-3 in the ECC, dropping Queens to 3-4-2, 1-2-1.

In search of their first conference victory of the season, the Lady Spartans wasted little time getting on the board. Sansone took a nice feed from Calli Moise, made a deft move on a lunging defender, and found the net with the right foot at 7:38 to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Blustery conditions contributed to a tough first half, which saw that score hold through the break with STAC holding a slim 4-2 edge in shots, with keeper Lauren Morales making a pair of saves.

St. Thomas Aquinas was dangerous in the opening minutes of the second half, resulting in Knights' goalkeeper Kimberly Chacko committing a foul in the penalty area at 56:52. Alyssa Rosania made no mistake on the PK, burying her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Just under three minutes later, Annalise Warren's chip floated high over Chacko toward the Queens goal, where Sansone was on the spot to head it home at 59:49, putting STAC in a commanding 3-0 lead.

Still, there were some anxious moments down the stretch as the visitors pressed to get back into the contest. Warren made an outstanding stop in the 78th minute, clearing a sure goal off the line and four minutes later Dumain made a specatcular diving right-hand stop from in close, then tracking down the bouncing shot as it approached the net. Dumain was again on the spot with three minutes remaining, making a pair of diving saves in succession to seal the Lady Spartans' win.

Morales was credited with the win and Dumain made six second-half saves in STAC's second shutout of the season. Thanks to their late pressure, the Knights earned a 12-8 advantage in shots, with Chacko making three saves.

The Lady Spartans will now hit the road for their next three contests, starting with a quick turnaround for a non-conference tilt at Georgian Court on Monday, October 5. They will proceed to ECC matches at Mercy and Queens before returning to Spartan Field to host Bridgeport on October 21.
