Women's Soccer Battles but Drops 2-0 Decision to Roberts Wesleyan

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team yielded a pair of second-half goals in a 2-0 East Coast Conference setback against Roberts Wesleyan College at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans fell to 2-5 overall with the loss, while RWC improved to 4-1-1, 1-0 on the season.

Despite being outshot by a 6-1 margin, the Lady Spartans played a solid first half in taking a scoreless deadlock into the break. Lauren Morales had a strong outing in the STAC net but was finally beaten midway through the second stanza when Bella Mitrevsky found the top corner in the 69th minute.

STAC did get off a few shots, including one by Lindsey Sansone that just cleared the crossbar, but were unable to crack the Redhawks' stingy defense. Roberts Wesleyan added the clincher with just under three minutes left as Brittany Houghton completed a nice passing play with the finish. Morales ended the day with seven saves for the hosts.

The Lady Spartans will return to action on Sunday, September 27, hosting Daemen College in a 12:00 noon start at Spartan Field. That will be the opener of a double-header which will see the men's teams also square off in ECC action starting at 3:00 pm.
