The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team ended the 2016 season with a 3-0 setback in an East Coast Conference game at LIU Post. The Lady Spartans closed the campaign with a 3-13 overall record, 0-8 in conference play, with Post improving to 11-2-2, 5-1-1.
Originally scheduled for Saturday but postponed due to inclement weather, Sunday's contest saw the hosts in control from the outset, with Julia Backman scoring at 10:53 to put the Pioneers on top. Backman converted again at 23:48 and the Lady Spartans were able to keep it close until Katie Kingston closed out the scoring at 77:32.
Post held a decisive advantage in shots, with STAC goalkeeper Courtney Dumain turning in an impressive 14-save performance. With most of the 20-player roster returning, the Lady Spartans remain optimistic after a year of building, which featured Dumain's solid play in net and the return of Nicole Rivera, who finished fifth in the conference with nine goals on the season.
