Lady Spartans Soccer drops 5-0 Contest at New Haven

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 5-0 setback at the University of New Haven in a non-conference tilt. STAC's record evened at 2-2 with the loss, while UNH remained perfect on the season a 3-0.

Playing a tough New Haven squad, the Lady Spartans held their own early, keeping their opponents off the board until the 39th minute of play. With the hosts earning the territorial advantage, a corner kick broke the deadlock as Danielle Widmann scored at 38:32 off a scramble in the box.

That score would hold up though halftime as the Lady Spartans remained one goal behind despite an 11-2 shot disadvantage through 45 minutes. Playing their third game in five days, STAC struggled in the second half, as Sarah Bosco's tally at 53:49 gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead and Sierra Stein added another five minutes later to open a 3-0 cushion.

New Haven ended the day with a 26-4 shots advantage, while Lady Spartans netminder Courtney Dumain was called upon to make 11 saves.

The Lady Spartans return to action on Monday, September 12, hosting Assumption in a 3:00 pm contest. They will then be off until Friday, traveling to Roberts Wesleyan to open their East Coast Conference schedule.
