Late Goals Send Lady Spartans to 2-0 Defeat Against Assumption

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team allowed two goals in the final 10 minutes to fall to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Assumption College at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans fell to 2-3 overall while Assumption improved to 3-1 on the season.

Despite failing to register a shot, the Lady Spartans had the balance of the play, displaying deft passing over the first 25 minutes. Assumption grabbed the territorial edge, but Courtney Dumain made four saves to keep the game scorless through the halftime break.

Assumption started to press the advantage in the second half but remained unable to hit the board until Jaclyn Tomasello converted a perfect header off Nikki Callini's corner kick at 80:36 for what proved to be the decisive goal. Just minutes later, Kallie Villamaire took a pretty feed from Ania Spina and slid it just past a diving Dumain to seal the game. STAC was outshot by a 22-3 margin overall and Dumain was credited with seven saves.

The Lady Spartans open their East Coast Conference schedule on Friday with a contest at Roberts Wesleyan College. They will travel to meet Daemen College in another ECC tilt on Sunday before returning to Spartan Field for a non-league game against nearby rival Dominican College on Wednesday, September 21.
