Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight in 4-0 Triumph over Bloomfield

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team earned a 4-0 decision over Bloomfield College in a non-conference contest on Sunday. Courtney Dumain earned her second straight shutout as four different scorers hit the net. STAC improved to 2-0 with the win, dropping the Bears to 0-2 on the season.

Both teams got off to a slow start in a sluggish first 20 minutes, but the Lady Spartans established their passing game midway through the first half and took control from there. A break got the hosts on the board, as Nicole Wagner's shot from the top of the box tipped a Bloomfield defender and skipped into the corner of the net, with Nicole Rivera getting the assist to make the score 1-0 at 25:37.

STAC wasted little time adding to the lead as the combo from the first goal was reversed, with Wagner sending Rivera on a nice run down the right side, culminating in an artistic shot off the far post and in for a 2-0 lead at the 28:13 mark.

With a decisive 10-1 advantage in shots at the half, St. Thomas Aquinas pressed early in the second stanza, only to see several opportunities narrowly miss the mark. They finally converted at 68:42, when Rivera sent an artful bicycle kick on goal, saved by keeper Emira Sela, but Francesca Giglio punched in the short rebound for a 3-0 margin.

As the final minutes ticked away, the Lady Spartans added another, with Kathryn Kerrigan's corner kick creating havoc, and Sydney Gonzalez converting the finish at 80:23. STAC ended the affair with a 22-10 shots advantage, while Dumain was called upon to make six saves in earning her second clean sheet in four days.

The Lady Spartans will once again play host on Tuesday, September 6, when Concordia College visits Spartan Field for a 3:00 pm start.
