Lady Spartans Drop 3-0 Decision to Georgian Court in Women's Soccer

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Georgian Court University at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans now stand at 3-7 on the season, with GCU improving to 6-2 overall.

STAC was facing a tall order against a tough Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent, but it was the Lady Spartans who mounted the first serious threats within the first two minutes of play. A frantic flurry saw the hosts pepper the Georgian Court net with no less than four scoring chances, three of which were turned aside by Lions' goalkeeper Natalie Axelsson and the last of which was blocked at the defense.

As the half progressed, the visitors found their footing, culminating in Morgan LoDuca's perfect free kick from 30 yards out, which was just over the outstretched arms of STAC keeper Courtney Dumain, off the crossbar and in, to make the score 1-0 at 21:18.

Still holding that narrow one-goal margin, Georgian Court created some breathing room with a pair of early tallies in the second half, with Taylor Brantley heading one in at 48:23 and Lauren Mendez capping the scoring at 51:17.

Georgian Court had a 13-8 advantage in shots and all five of the game's corner kicks, while Dumain maid five saves for St. Thomas Aquinas to four for Axelsson in earning the shutout for GCU.

The Lady Spartans are back in action for an East Coast Conference showdown with Mercy College on Saturday, October 1, with kickoff set for noon.
