Early Goals Set the Tone in STAC Women's Soccer's 5-0 Win over Lincoln

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team netted a pair of goals in the first five minutes and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Lincoln University (PA) at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans won their first of three games at home to start the season, in the opener for both squads.

STAC bolted to an early 2-0 lead less than five minutes after the opening whistle sounded, with Nicole Wagner breaking the seal at the 2:49 mark on an assist from Silvia Jaeske. Less than two minutes later, Victoria DeMarco converted from Alexis Rubenstein to put the hosts up a pair, and they would never look back.

Lincoln did settle down after the early jitters, but Nicole Rivera would pad the lead with just over four minutes to play in the half, with Jaeske's second assist giving STAC a comfortable 3-0 halftime cushion.

DeMarco added her second of the game just 1:36 after the break to make the tally 4-0 on a breakaway, and Rubenstein's marker on an assist from Rivera rounded out the scoring. Courtney Dumain was called upon to make just two saves in registering the clean sheet for STAC, which outshot the visitors by a dominant 29-5 margin, with Rivera accounting for eight of those shots.

The Lady Spartans will return to action on their home turf on Sunday, September 4, as Bloomfield University visits for a 12:00 noon start, and Concordia College comes to town on Tuesday in a 3:00 pm kickoff.
