Women's Soccer Falls in Tough 2-1 Setback at Georgian Court

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 2-1 defeat in a non-conference game at Georgian Court. The Lady Spartans now stand at 1-1 on the season, while Georgian Court also brought their record even at 1-1 with the win.

Georgian Court broke on top in the first half when Dana Fontana took a feed from Anissia Fucci and dribbled around STAC goalkeeper Courtney Dumain and hit the net to make the score 1-0 at 13:31. The Lions held a decisive 10-2 edge in shots but retained just that one-goal advantage as the teams entered halftime.

St. Thomas Aquinas found the equalizer midway through the second half when Mekenzi Moreau netted her third goal of the young season, sending a hard shot to the top corner off an assist from Kelsey Ardizzone to tie the score at 68:20. GCU needed little time to recover, however, as Fucci's header off a corner kick from Meagan Murdocco just 90 seconds later for what proved to be the decisive tally.

Duman kept the game within reach despite her Lady Spartans being outshot by a 21-5 margin, turning aside eight shots on the afternoon.

The Lady Spartans return home for their next two contests, as Felician University visits Spartan Field for a 4:00 start on Thursday, followed by the East Coast Conference season opener against Daemen on Saturday, September 16, at 11:00 am.
