DiMarco, Guinter Tally as Lady Spartans Blank Roberts Wesleyan, 2-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team captured a 2-0 East Coast Conference decision at Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday. The Lady Spartans are now 3-5-1 overall and their 2-2 record in conference play keeps them firmly in the running for a post-season tournament berth at the midway point of their ECC schedule. RWC fell to 1-10-1, 0-5 with the loss.

Neither team generated much offense in the first half, but STAC's leading scorer Mekenzi Moreau created an opportunity midway through the session, and Victoria DiMarco converted from in close at 24:47 to put the Lady Spartans on top. That lead held up through halftime with the Redhawks holding a narrow 4-3 edge in shots, but the visitors posted a big insurance marker after the break.

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Tauntyonah Guinter dribbled in the box and scored to make the score 2-0 at 54:19. Roberts Wesleyan carried the edge in shots from there, but STAC's defense combined with the seven saves from goalkeeper Courtney Dumain was enough to preserve the clean sheet and the Lady Spartans' second win the past three games.

The Lady Spartans return to action on Tuesday, October 10, hosting Concordia College in a non-conference tilt at Spartan Field, with game time set for 3:30 pm.
