Women's Soccer Falls to Bridgeport, 3-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to the University of Bridgeport, 3-0, in an East Coast Conference match at Spartan Field. STAC drops to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in ECC play, with Bridgeport improving to 4-4-2, 2-0-1.

In a game more tightly played than the final score would indicate, the teams battled to a scoreless halftime, with Bridgeport holding a 7-3 margin in shots. Neither team generated a major scoring opportunity through 60 minutes of play, but the visitors struck quickly to turn the tide.

Abagail Befford took a nice feed from Amanda Ebbesson and scored from in close for the game's first tally at 62:03. Only 91 seconds later, Ariana Weingrad took a failed clear and put a shot into the top corner from 25 yards out to make the score 2-0 at 63:34. Ebbesson closed out the scoring at 66:53 off a nice run down the right side.

Bridgeport ended the game with an 18-6 shots advantage, with Lady Spartans goalkeeper Courtney Dumain registering six saves.

The Lady Spartans return to ECC action on Saturday, October 7, with a trip to Roberts Wesleyan College. They return to Spartan Field to host Concordia in a non-conference battle on Tuesday, October 10, with start time set for 3:30 pm.
