Lady Spartans Battle to 1-1 Draw at Queens

The St. Thomas Aquinas Aquinas College women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw in an East Coast Conference match at Queens College. The Lady Spartans now stand at 3-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play, with Queens now at 1-4-1, 1-0-1.

STAC held the majority of the chances in the first half and got on the board at 20:57 when Caitlin Speranza headed a cross from Mekenzi Moreau past Queens goalkeeper Shenae Kreps. Speranza's second of the season was the Lady Spartans' lone tally despite holding a 7-1 advantage in shots at the halftime break.

Queens turned the tide after the break, with Victoria Ramirez scoring her fifth of the year at 78:43 on an assist from Guro Eriksen. In the second half, it was the Knights holding a 5-1 shots advantage, with the equalizer sending the game to overtime. Both teams recorded four shots during the 20 scoreless minutes of extra time, with Courtney Dumain making five saves in the STAC net to preserve the 1-1 tie.

The Lady Spartans return to ECC play at the University of Bridgeport on Friday, September 28, in a 6:00 pm start. After a trip to Washington Adventist on September 30, St. Thomas Aquinas will return home to play seven of its final eight regular season games at home, starting on Thursday, October 4, vs. Roberts Wesleyan.
