Sanchez Nets 2 Goals as Lady Spartans Blank Nyack, 3-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory in a non-conference contest against Nyack College at Spartan Field. While improving their record to 3-2-0 overall, the Lady Spartans also have hit the three-win total at the earliest point in any season in program history, besting their 3-2-1 start in the 2014 campaign. With the loss, Nyack slipped to 1-4-1.

Rebounding from Saturday's 2-0 setback to East Coast Conference foe Mercy, STAC wasted little time in jumping out to a lead against their crosstown rivals. Starting with a corner kick taken by Caitlin Speranza, Sarah Colotti was able to find Angelica Sanchez for her first goal of the season at 6:59. Playing through showers throughout the afternoon, that goal held up through halftime with the Lady Spartans enjoying a 10-3 edge in shots.

Sanchez struck for the second time, this time on a feed from Mekenzi Moreau, just 4:40 after the break to open a 2-0 gap. STAC padded the lead with a Kelsey Ardizzone marker at 72:47 to round out the scoring, with Moreau adding her second assist of the game. Courtney Dumain made two saves over the first 78 minutes of play before giving way to Samantha Sabini in the STAC net, completing the shutout as the hosts outshot Nyack by an 18-6 total.

The Lady Spartans play their next three straight on the road, starting with Saturday's ECC clash at Queens College starting at 1:00 pm. Their next home game is on Thursday, October 4, against Roberts Wesleyan College at 1:00 pm.
