2019 Season Preview: STAC Women's Soccer Looks to Build on Successes of Last Season in Quest for Postseason Berth

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team returns to the pitch for the 2019 season with a very talented, young roster, which hopes to take the next steps in the process of getting the Spartans to their first ECC postseason berth. The Spartans were selected 7th in the annual ECC preseason poll selected by the conference coaches and released on Tuesday.

In 2018, STAC finished over .500 for the first time in program history and set a season record for victories with a 9-6-1 overall mark. The team was 3-5-1 in ECC play.

The Spartans return their top two scorers from last season; Mekenzi Moreau (5 goals/20 points) and Sarah Colotti (5 goals/13 points). Also rejoining the team for the 2019 campaign will be; Justine Drum, Jacquelyn Murphy, Maya LaFleur, Niamh McKevitt, Victoria DiMarco, Christine Maretzo, Caitlin Speranza, Merari Rodriguez, Alexandra Squillaro, Jacquelyn Kaplan, Reilly Henry and Fiona Donohue.

The biggest change for STAC will be in goal, as the 4-year collegiate career of keeper Courtney Dumain came to a close last season. Patrolling the net for the Spartans in 2019 are two new faces in freshmen Alessandra Santoriello and Colleen Stevens. In addition, Corinne Kelly, Madeleine Black, Samantha Cardaci, Colette Martucci, Julianna Hanigan, Katarina Ott, Amandajane Fuchs-White, Lily O'Brien, Michaela Rapisarda and Ally Gauzza make their way to Sparkill to provide additional talent and depth at all positions on the field.

STAC will once again be under the direction of Head Coach Graham Brown and Associate Head Coach Bobby Czumak for the 2019 campaign. Assistant coaches Adrian Palau and Andres Gomez also return to the Spartan sideline, while Alyssa Rosania, Thomas O'Daniels, Chris Nichol and Jack Carillo come on board for their first season with the maroon and gold.

The Spartans will open their 2019 season on the road at Southern New Hampshire University, as STAC will face American International College on September 6th and Southern Connecticut State University on September 8th in a pair of neutral site contests. St. Thomas Aquinas will open the home portion of their schedule at Spartan Field on September 11th, as they host NE-10 opponent Saint Anselm College.
