STAC Falls to Dominican in Women's Soccer, 2-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 2-0 defeat against Dominican College in a non-conference game at Spartan Field. STAC remained winless on the season, falling to 0-5 overall, while Dominican improved to 2-3 with the victory.

Defense set the tone throughout the first half, and though Dominican led in shots by a 5-2 margin, neither team posed a serious scoring threat in the first 45 minutes. That changed after the break as the visitors turned up the intensity and broke the ice when Megan Geary took a long feed across the box from Victoria Bonner and chipped it into the net at 60:20. The Chargers added a big insurance tally as Geary put home her second of the day on an assist from Abby Montera to close out the scoring at 68:31.

Colleen Stevens started in net and took the loss for the hosts, making five saves in the process, while Dominican goalkeeper Lauren Buchannan also turned aside five shots to earn the shutout.

The Spartans start their East Coast Conference schedule with a major challenge, hosting the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, September 21 at Spartan Field. Kickoff time is set for 11:00 am, and the game is the front end of a double-header with the men's teams squaring off to follow.
