STAC Women’s Soccer Drops 2-1 Battle with D'Youville

Buffalo, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team came out on the losing side of an ECC clash with D'Youville College on Saturday afternoon at Dobson Field in Buffalo, falling 2-1 to the Saints.

The game was filled with back-and-forth action between the two sides, but it took 25 minutes of play for the first goal to be scored. Kavina Ganeshan would take a through ball from Jillian Bernas off of a STAC turnover and put it past goalkeeper Alessandra Santoriello and into the back of the net to make it 1-0 D'Youville.

Brooke Ianiero would double the Saints lead at 2-0 in the 35th minute, as she would put home a rebound off of Dani Camilleri shot that was originally saved by Santoriello, but could not be controlled.

St. Thomas Aquinas got themselves on the scoreboard just before the end of the half with an own goal in the 38th minute off of a D'Youville defender's foot to make it 2-1.

The battle for possession continued after the halftime break, with the Spartans desperately trying to tie up the game. Despite STAC's four quality shots on net, D'Youville goalie Laurie Poeller would come up with a series of big saves to secure the victory.
