Amherst, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team came out on the losing side of an East Coast Conference clash with Daemen College on Saturday morning at Karrer Field, falling 2-1 to the Wildcats.
In first half action, Daemen would strike just five minutes into the match, as Tatyjana Scalisi would steal a pass from a STAC defender and fire a shot over the head of keeper Colleen Stevens, with it going into the top right corner of the net to make it 1-0 Daemen.
The Wildcats would double their lead at 2-0 in the 24th minute as Faye Panagopoulos would receive a chip pass by teammate Alyssa Diaz, sending Panagopoulos in on a partial breakaway with her taking a hard low shot that would get past Stevens and go to the back of the net. Daemen would take a two-goal advantage into the locker room for halftime, also outshooting STAC by an 11-4 margin.
After the break, Daemen would come out looking to put the game out of reach early in the stanza. However, the visiting Spartans had other ideas and were able to cut the deficit in half on an intercepted Wildcats pass, which Amandajane Fuchs-White would take around several Daemen defenders and put past goalie Tori Delappi to make it a 2-1 game with just under 34 minutes remaining.
Both teams would have several high quality opportunities to score down the stretch, but neither team was able to add to the scoreboard before the final buzzer, giving Daemen the slim 2-1 victory.
