Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team dropped a non-conference home tilt to Dominican, 5-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill.
The Spartans (1-3) were outshot by the Chargers (1-3), 23-12 in the contest.
Dominican posted five first half goals to hold a 5-1 advantage at the break, which was all they needed to secure the victory.
STAC HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Merari Rodriguez tallied the lone goal for St. Thomas Aquinas, her first of the season.
- Ileana Santiago led STAC in shots with three on the afternoon.
- Two other Spartans (Caitlin Speranza and Rachel Brownell) tallied two shots in the contest.
- Goalkeeper Colleen Stevens (L, 1-2) went the distance and made five saves for STAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chargers opened the scoring in the third minute of the match, as Natalie Cargill would score off of a pass from Danai Chimedza.
- STAC would tie things at one goal apiece in the fifth minute, as Merari Rodriguez fired a shot past Dominican College keeper Lynne Garofalo, which came off of a failed clear by the DC backend on a Reilly Henry corner kick.
- Dominican retook the lead with back-to-back goals by Alyana Gonel in the 25th and 26th minutes, with assists going to Gabriella Bedetti and Isabella Wysocki respectively to make it 3-1.
- Just over a minute later, Isabella Wysocki would extend the visitor's lead to 4-1 on a pass by Tara Long.
- The final goal of the day came via Abby Montera in the 32nd minute, with Long picking up her second helper of the contest to make it a 5-1 game.
