Women's Soccer Drops 4-0 Result to Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. -  The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team dropped a 4-0 result to Mercy College on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field in Westchester County.

STAC falls to 2-8-2 overall and 1-4 in the ECC, while Mercy improves to 10-1 and 5-0 in conference play.

Kayla Camacho tallied two goals for the host Mavericks, with Jennifer Silva and Marlene Avalos also contributing to the scoring.

The first Mercy goal came in the 10th minute, as Jennifer Silva would capitalize on a short free kick, firing a shot to the lower left corner of the net, past STAC keeper Colleen Stevens to make it 1-0.

Kayla Camacho picked up the first of her two goals on the afternoon in the 22nd minute, on a pass through the Spartan defense by teammate Marlene Avalos. Camacho would get off an inital shot, which was saved by Stevens, but a loose rebound was put home by the Mavericks forward giving them a two-goal advantage.

Moments later, Camacho would strike again, when an attempted pass by the Valley Stream native went off of a sliding STAC defender and into the back of the net, making it 3-0.

The final Mercy goal came in the 59th minute of the second half, as Ancksu Dixon fed a breakaway pass to Marlene Avalos who blasted a shot past Stevens to give the hosts a commanding 4-0 advantage.
