Shepherdstown, WV - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team came out on the losing side of a road clash with Shepherd University on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 to the Rams.
Olivia Watt opened the scoring for the host Rams, taking a pass from teammate Sara Hohn and putting it to the back of the net in the 21st minute to make it 1-0. St. Thomas Aquinas would get three first half opportunities to get on the scoreboard, but two key saves by Shepherd keeper Faith Leisinger and a hit goal post kept the Spartans scoreless going into halftime.
After the break, Shepherd would immediately strike for its second goal on the afternoon, as Sara Hohn picked up the eventual game-winning tally with the helper going to Delaney Bittner to make it 2-0.
The Spartans battled back with several high-chance scoring opportunities and finally changed their luck in the 83rd minute, when Natalie Oden took a feed from Ashley Argento and scored her first collegiate goal to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
In the final moments of the match, the visitors in maroon and gold put on a furious rally attempt, but unfortunately time was not on their side as the Rams held on for the one-goal victory.
