Spartans Fall to Wilmington, 3-0

Wilmington, Del. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team fell to Wilmington University, 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex in a non-conference matchup. The Spartans moved to 2-9-2, while the Wildcats improved to 3-7-4.

How it Happened

  • The Spartans and Wildcats battled for the momentum through the first 41 minutes of action, with the hosts holding a 7-3 shots advantage.
  • Wilmington opened the scoring in the 42nd minute on a Kailey Hyland unassisted tally off of a turnover by STAC goalie Alessandra Santoriello to make it 1-0.
  • Another Spartan turnover, this time in the 75th minute, allowed Sammie Bennett to find teammate Emily Larsen, who fired a shot that dribbled by keeper Colleen Stevens and to the back of the net to double the Wilmington lead at 2-0.
  • The final goal came in the 88th minute, as an intercepted pass in the Spartans' defensive end, resulted in several Wildcat passes that led Hannah Schwartz to make a feed to Emily Larsen who tallied her second of the match and made it 3-0 Wilmington.
