Women's Soccer Closes 2022 Season with 2-1 Victory Over D'Youville

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team wrapped up its 2022 season with a 2-1 victory over D'Youville University on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.

STAC concludes its campaign, going 5-10-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the ECC. Meanwhile, D'Youville finishes with a record of 2-12-1 and 1-6-0.

Prior to the contest, STAC honored its graduating senior class; Alessandra Santoriello, Colleen Stevens, Samantha Cardaci, Lucille Bluntschli, Corinne Kelly, Colette Martucci, Amandajane Fuchs-White, Katarina Ott, Merari Rodriguez and Jessica Casanova with on-field ceremonies, which included the athletes' families, teammates, coaches and college administrators.

How it Happened

  • Colette Martucci opened the scoring for the Spartans in the third minute of the match as a turnover by the visiting Saints would result in Amandajane Fuchs-White taking a feed up the far sideline, where she would cut to the net and initally be stopped by keeper Kailie Regan. However, with Regan out of position, the ball would roll to the foot of Martucci who boot it to the back of the onion bag for a 1-0 lead.
  • Late in the first half, a foul inside of the penalty area would result in a penalty kick being awarded to D'Youville. Hanna Dino would be tasked with taking the PK opportunity and converted with a strike to the top left corner of the net, over the head of keeper Alessandra Santoriello, to tie things at 1-1.
  • Minutes before halftime, Emily Ras would deposit a free kick from 20 yards out inside of the right goal post and just above the head of Kailie Regan to give STAC back the one-goal advantage at 2-1.
  • D'Youville outshot St. Thomas Aquinas 7-5 through the first 45 minutes of action, with the Spartans holding a slight 2-1 advantage in corner kicks over the Saints.
  • Following the break, D'Youville would turn up the pressure on STAC, earning four more scoring chances and numerous corner kick oppportunities. However, the maroon and gold defense, led by keeper Colleen Stevens would stand tall and shut down the attack threat of the Saints to preserve the one-goal victory.
