Steen's 83rd Minute Goal Gives STAC 2-2 Draw with Staten Island

Staten Island, N.Y. - Amalie Steen's second goal of the season came at the most opportune time for the St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Soccer team, as her 83rd minute tally tied the score at 2-2 and forced a draw with the College of Staten Island on Wednesday at the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex.

STAC moves to 0-5-3 overall and 0-1-1 in ECC play, while CSI goes to 0-6-2 and 0-2-1.

Taryn Hilke and Klarissa Melgoza each tallied goals for the host Dolphins, as goalkeepers Oksana Zahirna and Sara Villacres (T, 0-3-1) split time between the sticks with both netminders allowing a goal apiece on 16 total shots faced.

Meanwhile, Amalie Steen and Kaitlyn Maguire scored a goal apiece for the Spartans, while keeper Catalena Robson (T, 0-4-3) went the distance, making six stops on eight shots for St. Thomas Aquinas.

How it Happened

43rd Minute: A soft clear by the Spartans defense found the head of CSI's Riley Hammond, who put the ball back into the box and onto the foot of teammate Taryn Hilke for a boot over the head of keeper Catalena Robson to tie the score at 1-1.

50th Minute: Staten Island took the early second half lead on a rebound goal, as Nadia Evola's initial shot was blocked by the STAC defense, but the loose ball was put past Robson by Klarissa Melgoza to make it 2-1.

83rd Minute: The Spartans knotted the game at 2-2 after several failed clearing attempts by CSI resulted in Kaitlyn Maguire slipping a pass to Amalie Steen for a blast under a diving Sara Villacres at the left post.
