Rochester, N.Y. - Amalie Steen's two-goal performance for the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team gave the maroon and gold its third straight victory on Saturday, a 2-1 triumph over Roberts Wesleyan University at Redhawks Field in Western New York.
STAC improves to 3-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in ECC play, while RWU slips to 4-6-1 and 2-3-0.
Amalie Steen tallied a pair of goals for the visiting Spartans, as goalkeeper Catalena Robson (W, 2-4-3) stopped four of five shots faced to earn her second win of the year.
Meanwhile, Alyssa Hackett scored the lone goal for the Redhawks, as goalkeeper Mia Tyndell (L, 3-2-1) made eight stops on ten shots faced for Roberts Wesleyan.
How it Happened
17th Minute: A Redhawks turnover resulted in Sophie Stanley corralling the ball and sending a feed to teammate Amalie Steen. Steen would then maneuver around two defenders and send a right footed boot on goal beating Mia Tyndell to make it 1-0 STAC.
48th Minute: Amalie Steen's second goal of the match came on a failed clear attempt by Roberts Wesleyan, which allowed the ball to be put back inside the box and onto the left foot of Steen for the blast by Tyndell, doubling the Spartans lead at 2-0.
75th Minute: Roberts Wesleyan would end the shutout when Cami Brescia made her way toward the net on a through ball. Brescia's initial shot would be stopped by the Spartans' defense in front of the net, but the loose rebound would find Alyssa Hackett who would boot a high shot over the head of Catalena Robson to the back of the onion bag to make it a one-goal game at 2-1.
