STAC Women's Soccer Falls To Wilmington (DE) On The Road, 3-1

Wilmington, Del. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team hit the road on Wednesday afternoon, visiting Wilmington University (DE) for a non-conference tilt at the WU Athletics Complex. The host Wildcats scored three second half goals en route to a 3-1 win over the Spartans.

STAC falls to 3-7-3 overall, while Wilmington improves to 9-4-0 on the season.

Jordan Siok tallied a pair of goals, while teammate Evelyn Payne added an insurance goal for the Wildcats. Goalkeepers Arianna Myers, Mio Nakajima (W, 4-1-0) and Isabella Mazzone each saw time between the sticks and turned away eight of nine shots faced for Wilmington.

Meanwhile, Isabella Diianni scored the first goal of her collegiate career for the Spartans, as netminder Haley Liss (L, 1-2-0) made three stops on six shots for St. Thomas Aquinas.

How it Happened

54th Minute: An offensive rush started by Wildcats keeper Mio Nakajima with a goal kick, found the foot of Evelyn Payne along the sideline. Payne sprinted upfield and turned in toward the goal while beating several Spartans defenders. She then attempted to find a teammate with a pass at the front of the net, but it was pushed out by goalie Haley Liss and a defender only to be corralled by Jordon Siok and put home to make it 1-0 Wilmington.

63rd Minute: Another Wilmington rush saw Alyssa Ruggeri send a through ball to Jordan Siok, putting her one-on-one with keeper Haley Liss. Siok deked Liss and send a soft shot into the empty net to double the host's lead at 2-0.

63rd Minute: Seconds later, STAC got on the scoreboard off of a Wildcats turnover to Sarai Rodriguez. Rodriguez skied a ball into the box, near the right goal post, where Isabella Diianni was able to head the ball into the back of the onion bag, past goalie Mio Nakajima to cut the deficit to 2-1.

68th Minute: Wilmington's insurance goal came via a Spartans' turnover, as Alyssa Ruggeri and Evelyn Payne played a little give and go. Ruggeri took a feed from Payne and raced upfield, then threw on the brakes to send a back pass to Payne for the blast which went into the net at the top left corner to make it 3-1.
