
Sparkill, N.Y. - A Sarai Rodriguez penalty kick goal in the 84th minute rallied the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team to even the score and force a 1-1 draw with Felician University on Thursday afternoon in the squad's 2024 season opener at Spartan Field.
STAC moves to 0-0-1 on the season, while Felician also goes to 0-0-1. The match was also the first for new head coach Fredy Guiran.
Catalena Robson (T, 0-0-1) got her the start between the pipes for the maroon and gold, and turned aside four of five shots faced. On the other end of the field, Zoe Pite (T, 0-0-1) went turned away 16 of 17 shots faced.
How it Happened
33rd Minute - A long boot from Felician keeper Zoe Pite, reached teammate Makenna Leszcynski at midfield. Leszcynski then sent a pass to Felicity Urias moving up field on a two-on-one, and she fired a shot past Catalena Robson at the right post to give the Golden Falcons a 1-0 lead.
84th Minute - Sarai Rodriguez's partial breakaway late in the second half was broken up by Golden Falcons keeper Zoe Pite. However, in the process of negating Rodriguez's scoring attempt, Pite took the junior forward down in the penalty area, forcing the officials to call a penalty kick. Sarai knotted the score at 1-1 on a solid blast to the left side of the net, beating the Felician netminder.
