Sparkill, N.Y. - Late goals by Sophie Stanley and Amalie Steen erased a one-goal deficit and propelled the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the University of Maine at Fort Kent on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.
STAC moves to 2-5-3 on the season, while UMFK slips to 5-6-1.
Nancy Martin tallied the lone goal for the visiting Bengals, as goalkeeper Dreanna Thaw stopped 13 of 15 shots faced for Maine at Fort Kent.
Meanwhile, the aforementioned Stanley and Steen scored a goal apiece for the Spartans. Keeper Haley Liss (W, 1-1-0) picked up her first win of the year for St. Thomas Aquinas.
How it Happened
Seventh Minute: An early offensive rush by the Bengals allowed Petagay Dixon to race upfield and slip a pass to a breaking Nancy Martin for a quick strike, beating keeper Hailey Liss with a high, rising shot to make it 1-0 UMFK.
80th Minute: A Kaitlyn Maguire corner kick found the foot of teammate Sophie Stanley at the right post for the redirection past goalie Dreanna Thaw to knot the match up at 1-1.
89th Minute: Sarai Rodriguez's corner kick reached the head of Amalie Steen for the flick on frame, beating Dreanna Thaw to give STAC the late 2-1 lead.
