SPARKILL, NY – The St. Thomas Aquinas College women’s tennis team won a huge regional match on Thursday, taking down CACC foe Jefferson University 5-2.  After taking the doubles point, the Spartans would win at first, third, fifth, and sixth singles.

Sofia Shutko ’21 (Kiev, Ukraine) would make it 2-0 for the Spartans with a 6-4, 6-2 win at first singles in a matchup of two Division I transfers.  Losses at fourth and second singles would make it a 2-2 match before Ayesha Burnett ’23 (Wellington, New Zealand) won at fifth singles 6-0, 6-0.  Maya O’Brien ’22 (Orangeburg, NY) won the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-4 win at sixth singles, while Cassandra Rohr ’21 (Mallorca, Spain) would win in the third set of her third singles match to round out the scoring.

The Spartans are next up at New Haven University on Friday.  First serve is set for 3:00 PM, weather permitting.
