WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ – The St. Thomas Aquinas College women’s tennis team won their tenth match of the year on Tuesday, besting Kutztown University 5-2. Celebrating Senior Day for captains Katarina Lopez ’20 (New City, NY) and Anna Ristova ’20 (Gothenberg, Sweden), the victory tied a program record for wins in a season.
A sweep of all three doubles matches earned the Spartans the first point of the match. Lopez and Ristova paired at third doubles to take a 6-4 win. In singles action, Lopez would cruise for a 6-1, 6-2 win at fourth singles, while Ristova nearly made it a Senior Sweep before ultimately dropping her sixth singles match in a third set super tie breaker.
Ayesha Burnett ’23 (Wellington, New Zealand) continued her hot play, as she added a fifth singles win to her second doubles triumph earlier. Burnett is now a combined 16-3 on the season after returning from injury. Her doubles partner, Carla Mentrup ’21 (Munich, Germany) got back on the winning track with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at second singles.
Cassandra Rohr ’21 (Mallorca, Spain) extended her dual match singles winning streak to twelve as she dispatched her opponent 6-3, 6-2 at third singles.
The Spartans are up next on Friday, October 25 as the travel to Queens College to take on the University of the District of Columbia in the East Coach Conference tournament. First serve is set for 2 PM, rain or shine.
