
West Haven, Conn. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team won a hard-fought match over the University of New Haven on Friday afternoon by the score of 4-3.
The host Chargers got off to a good start during doubles, winning two out of the three matchups. Ivana Andric/Gaayatri Shankar won over Karina Blas/Viktoriia Pavlovets on the first court by a score of 6-3, while Karim Carreras/Lilia Rodriguez posted a 7-5 victory against Samanta Villegas Robles/Elita Silins in the second slot. The STAC duo of Paula Palero/Eliza Mulder took the third match, besting Alexa Orlando/Olivia Martinelli 7-5.
However, it would be the Spartans who would battle back during singles play, winning four of six matchups. Karina Blas led off for STAC in No. 1 singles, defeating her opponent Ivana Andric via retirement. No. 2 Viktoriia Pavlovets would best Gaayatri Shankar in three bouts, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0, followed by No. 5 Eliza Mulder besting Kat MacPhail in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 and finally Elita Silins dispatching Lilia Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-1.
Eliza Mulder went 2-0 on the day, winning at No. 3 Doubles and No. 5 Singles to help STAC to their first team victory of the season.

STAC travels to the City of Brotherly Love on Monday, October 4 to face Jefferson University, with first service scheduled for 4pm.
