Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team battled Post University in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at the Riley Family Tennis Courts in Sparkill. Unfortunately, the match was suspended due to darkness with the contest tied 3-3.
The Spartans claimed the doubles point, sweeping all three matchups with the tandem of Jemima Parkinson/Ayesha Burnett winning 6-1 in No. 3 doubles. On the second court, Samanta Villegas Robles and Elita Silins won their matchup 6-4. The No. 1 doubles team of Karina Blas/Vera Gak Anagrova also dispatched their opponents by the score of 6-4.
Post took the first three singles matches of the afternoon at the No. 2, 4 and 1 positions, before Eliza Mulder was able to claim victory for STAC at No. 5 singles in a 6-1, 6-1 bout. Flaminia Maria Valci next won at No. 6 singles by the score of 6-0, 6-0 to tie the match at three wins apiece. The deciding contest would feature No. 3 Samanta Villegas Robles taking on Oceane Mallovre from Post. After 6-7 (5) and 6-3 scores through the first two sets, the third set would go unfinished as a result of darkness, tied 6-6 (6-6).
