
Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team extended its winning streak to six on Friday at the Riley Family Tennis Courts, as the Spartans took down ECC rival Queens College, 5-2.
STAC began the afternoon, taking two out of three doubles matches, as Paula Palero and Eliza Mulder cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to set the tempo. The team of Samanta Villegas Robles and Elita Silins would clinch the all important point for the Spartans with another 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 position.
The host Spartans carried that momentum into singles action, as STAC picked up two consecutive victories to start things. First, Samanta Villegas Robles would win 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4, followed by Paula Palero earning a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to make it 3-0. The visiting Knights would score a win at No. 2 singles, before Karina Blas would clinch the match-winning point at No. 1 singles with a 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 triumph. No. 6 Elita Silins would provide some insurance for St. Thomas Aquinas with a 6-1, 6-1 victory as well.
