Orangeburg, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team fell in East Coast Conference action to the University of the District of Columbia, 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Match Point Tennis Club in Orangeburg.
 
The Spartans swept the doubles point from the Firebirds on the strength of victories by the teams of Karina Blas & Viktoria Pavlovets 6-3, Samanta Villegas Robles & Elita Silins 6-1 and Paula Palero & Eliza Mulder 6-1.

 

St. Thomas Aquinas went on to grab the first singles point with a win at No. 4 (Samanta Villegas Robles 6-2, 6-0), to take a 2-0 lead. However, the visitors would rack up wins at No. 1 (Simoné Parn 6-1, 6-2), 3 (Sofia Bellucco 7-6(4), 6-2), 6 (Valentina Brienza 6-2, 6-2), 2 (Mariona Franco Martin 3-6, 6-2, 7-5) and 5 (Laura Marie 2-6, 6-1, 6-0) to take the overall team victory.
 
Samanta Villegas Robles went 2-0 on the day, winning at No. 2 Doubles and No. 4 Singles, while teammate and doubles partner Elita Silins picked up her first collegiate win.
