POSTSEASON PREVIEW: Top-Seeded Spartans Begin ECC Championship Quest Friday Against Daemen

Sparkill, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team will make its fifth appearance in the last six seasons in East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. First-year Head Coach Dan Rockhill and his top-seeded Spartans are set to take on fourth-seeded Daemen University in a semifinal match on Friday.

When and Where: Friday, October 28 at 12pm from the Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Fans can catch all of the action LIVE on the ECC Network.

Recent Postseason History: St. Thomas Aquinas reached the ECC final in the Spring of 2021 (2020-21 season moved to Spring due to COVID-19 pandemic) and the semifinals in the Fall of 2022, falling to Queens College in both matchups. STAC made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament last Spring.

Season Series: During the Fall 2022 Season, STAC defeated Daemen 7-0 in a matchup at the Riley Family Tennis Courts on September 17. The victory would be the team's third consecutive triumph on the way to a perfect 8-0 regular season, where the Spartans also clinched the program's second ECC Regular Season title with a 5-0 mark. Meeting for the second time in the last six weeks, the maroon and gold will be seeking to send the Wildcats home and move on to the championship final.

Leading the Way: The Spartans will lean on the leadership of East Coast Conference Player of the Year Ebba Rosberg (7-2 Doubles & 10-1 Singles), along with All-Conference honorees Eliza Mulder (10-1 Doubles & 2-0 Singles), Paula Palero (9-1 Doubles & 3-1 Singles), Elita Silins (6-2 Doubles & 7-1 Singles), Samanta Villegas Robles (7-2 Doubles and 10-2 Singles) and rookie sensation Amaia Balaguer Brau (1-0 Doubles & 9-2 Singles). Ayesha Burnett, Vera Gak Anagrova, Alba Guijo, Giovanna Jallas, Jemima Parkinson and Viktoriia Pavlovets round out a very deep and talented Spartans roster.

And Then There Were Four: The first semifinal matchup of the 2022 East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on Friday will feature the No. 3 seeded Queens College Knights taking on the No. 2 seeded University of the District of Columbia Firebirds at 9am. The winners of Friday's semifinals will square off in the East Coast Conference final on Saturday (October 29) at noon, and is hosted by Queens College. The winner of the tournament will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held May 2023.
