POSTSEASON PREVIEW: Spartans Begin ECC Title Defense Friday Against UDC

Sparkill, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team will make its sixth appearance in the last seven seasons in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. However, this time around, second-year Head Coach Dan Rockhill and his second-seeded Spartans are the defending ECC Champs and are set to take on the third-seeded University of the District of Columbia in a semifinal match on Friday.

When and Where: Friday, October 27 at 12pm from the Queens College Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. Fans can catch all of the action LIVE on the ECC Network.

Recent Postseason History: St. Thomas Aquinas captured its first-ever ECC Championhip in the Fall of 2022 and won its first NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament match last Spring, setting the stage for the team's inaugural trip to the NCAA Championship Sweet 16 in Orlando Florida.

Season Series: During the Fall 2023 Season, STAC defeated UDC 5-2 in a matchup at the Riley Family Tennis Courts on October 9. The victory would be the team's second consecutive triumph on the way to a perfect 6-0 October, where the Spartans locked up the #2 seed with a 4-1 ECC mark. Meeting for the second time in the last two weeks, the maroon and gold will be seeking to send the Firebirds home and move on to the championship final.

Leading the Way: The Spartans will lean on the leadership of two-time East Coast Conference Player of the Year Ebba Rosberg (12-2 Doubles & 12-1 Singles), along with All-Conference honorees Elita Silins (10-2 Doubles & 12-1 Singles), Elise Semmartin (2-2 Doubles & 7-1 Singles) and Samanta Villegas Robles (11-2 Doubles & 5-3 Singles). Alba Guijo, Giovanna Jallas, Amanda Kadiri, Kateryna Kryuchkova, Jemima Parkinson, Viktoriia Pavlovets, and Sonia Tandelova round out a very deep and talented Spartans roster.

And Then There Were Four: The first semifinal matchup of the 2023 East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on Friday will feature the No. 4 seeded Daemen University Wildcats taking on the No. 1 seeded and hosts Queens College at 9am. The winners of Friday's semifinals will square off in the East Coast Conference final on Saturday (October 28) at 4:00 p.m. The winner of the tournament will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held May 2024.
