Women's Tennis Closes Out ECC Regular Season Play with 6-1 Triumph at Daemen

Williamsville, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team closed out East Coast Conference regular season play on Saturday evening by defeating Daemen University, 6-1 at the Miller Tennis Center.

STAC earned its sixth straight victory and moves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the ECC, while Daemen drops its third in a row and slips to 5-6 and 2-3.

STAC opened things up with a dominant performance in doubles play. The Spartans swept all three matches, as Viktoriia Pavlovets and Giovanna Jallas played at No. 3 and took care of business versus Carly Armitage and Emily Jablonski, 6-0. Jemima Parkinson and Elita Silins then defeated Yinett Del Leon and Maya Chon, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles, with the third doubles contest going the way of Ebba Rosberg and Samanta Villegas Robles by the score of 6-2 over Frida Rubio and Kitsa Scime at the No. 1 position.

St. Thomas Aquinas led 1-0 after winning the doubles point and did not let off the gas in singles competition, taking five of six matches. Giovanna Jallas defeated Emily Jablonski, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles, while Kateryna Kryuchkova defeated Maya Chon via retirement, 6-1, 3-0 at No. 5 to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 advantage. Elita Silins took care of business at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Carly Armitage to clinch the team victory. Elise Semmartin defeated Yinett Del Leon, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 and Ebba Rosberg defeated Frida Rubio, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1. The No. 2 singles match went the way of Daemen's Kitsa Scime via a 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) victory over Viktoriia Pavlovets to break the shutout.

Ebba Rosberg, Elita Silins and Giovanna Jallas each went 2-0 on the day with both doubles and singles victories over the Wildcats.

UP NEXT
 
St. Thomas Aquinas will be the #2 seed in the upcoming East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, which takes place on October 27 and 28 (Times TBA) at Queens College. The Spartans will take on #3 University of the District of Columbia in Semifinal action.
 
In regular season play, STAC defeated UDC 5-2 on October 9 at the Riley Family Tennis Courts in Sparkill.
