Philadelphia, Pa. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team closed out its 2023-2024 regular season schedule on Friday afternoon with a visit to the City of Brotherly Love to face Jefferson University. A game Spartans squad made quick work of the host Rams, blanking them by the final score of 7-0.
STAC improves to 15-6 on the year, while Jefferson slips to 13-9.
The Spartans opened things up with a strong performance in doubles play, taking all three of the matchups to secure the first team point. No. 2 Jemima Parkinson & Elita Silins defeated Charly Egger & Manni Zhang, 6-2, followed by No. 1 Viktoriia Pavlovets & Kateryna Kryuchkova besting Noelle Frenzel & Nicole Hrbkova, 6-4. No. 3 Amanda Kadiri & Samanta Villegas Robles closed out pairs play with a 6-4 victory over Emily Frost & Stanislava Norets.
Once the maroon and gold secured the doubles point, there was no turning back. St. Thomas Aquinas jumped right into singles play, taking all six singles matches from the Rams to secure its 15th win in 21 tries. Elita Silins started the victory spree in the No. 5 slot, taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Zenia Barretto. Elise Semmartin followed the trend taking a 6-1, 6-1 triumph in the No. 3 slot from Charly Egger to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 lead roughly halfway through the afternoon. Kateryna Kryuchkova took a 6-2, 6-1 win over Emily Frost in the No. 6 spot to clinch the overall team victory, opening the door for No. 2 Amanda Kadiri (Win: 6-2, 6-2), No. 1 Viktoriia Pavlovets (Win: 6-2, 6-2) and No. 4 Samanta Villegas Robles (Win: 6-0, 6-3) each winning their bouts to keep the shutout victory in tact.
