Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team was back in action on Sunday afternoon, dropping a tight 4-3 decision to Vassar College at the Richard L. Cretella Tennis Center.
STAC slips to 11-5 on the season, while Vassar improves to 9-3 on the year.
The Spartans opened the day picking up two-of-three doubles matches to take the first team point. #2 Elita Silins & Jemima Parkinson downed Iris Li & Maddie Kirby, 6-3, before Vassar would tie things with a win at #3, as Ananya Krishnan & Elyse Duley needed the tie breaker to defeat Amanda Kadiri & Sun Zhuoxuan 7-6 (7-5). The top pair of Viktoriia Pavlovets & Kateryna Kryuchkova also needed the tie breaker to end things, taking down Erin McCusker & Macey Dowd, 7-6 (7-3).
When the sides turned their attention to singles play, STAC would go up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory by Elise Semmartin over Iris Li at the #3 position. However, Vassar would take the next four bouts to capture the overall victory. #2 Macey Dowd took down Amanda Kadiri 6-0, 6-2, #1 Erin McCusker beat Viktoriia Pavlovets 6-1, 6-2, #6 Elyse Duley handed Sun Zhuoxuan a 6-3, 6-4 loss and #4 Ananya Krishman sealed the triumph for the Brewers with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win against Elita Silins. The maroon and gold closed out the day by receiving a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory from Kateryna Kryuchkova over Maddie Kirby.
