On Wednesday, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its Division II Women’s and Men's Team, Singles and Doubles National Rankings.
National Rankings consist of the Top 50 squads, along with Top 75 singles players and Top 50 doubles teams.
The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team currently ranks #37 in the nation, while Spartan Seth Newman comes in at #60 in the Men's Singles poll.
STAC Women's Tennis currently sits at 11-4 overall and 4-1 in ECC play, having captured their third ECC Regular season title in the last five seasons back in late October. The maroon and gold have wins over Molloy (7-0), D'Youville (7-0), Daemen (7-0), West Chester (7-0), District of Columbia (6-1), Post (7-0), District of Columbia-ECC Semifinal (4-0), Minnesota State Moorhead (4-3), Winona State (7-0), SUNY New Paltz (7-0) and Wilmington (4-3). The team's only blemishes come via regular season setbacks to Queens (6-1), Hampton (4-3), North Dakota (6-1) and Queens (4-1) in the ECC Championship match.
Newman (Cambridge, England) has compiled a record of 17-5 in singles play on the season and was named the ECC Men's Tennis Preseason Player of the Year, along with receiving Player of the Week honors on February 11 and 18. The sophomore Spartan went 6-0 enroute to capturing the ITA Division II East Region Singles crown and advanced to the ITA Cup Round of 16.
Division II rankings are compiled by the ITA National Ranking Committees.
