Sparkill, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team will make its seventh appearance in the last eight seasons in the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. However, this time around, third-year Head Coach Dan Rockhill and his second-seeded Spartans are the two-time defending ECC Champs and are set to take on the third-seeded University of the District of Columbia in a semifinal match on Friday.
When and Where: Friday, October 25 at 9:00 a.m. from the Queens College Tennis Bubble in Flushing, New York. Fans can catch all of the action LIVE on the ECC Network.
Recent Postseason History: St. Thomas Aquinas captured a second straight ECC Championship in the Fall of 2023 and won its second NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament match in as many years last Spring, setting the stage another trip to the NCAA Championship Sweet 16 in Orlando Florida.
Season Series: During the Fall 2024 Season, STAC defeated District of Columbia 6-1 in a matchup at the UDC Tennis Courts on October 11. The victory would be the team's fifth consecutive triumph on the way to a 6-1 regular season finish, where the Spartans locked up the #2 seed with a 4-1 ECC mark. Meeting for the second time in the last two weeks, the maroon and gold will be seeking to send the Firebirds home and move on to the championship final for a third straight season.
Leading the Way: The Spartans will lean on the the stellar play of East Coast Conference Player and Rooke of the Year Anaya Brons (5-3 Doubles & 11-1 Singles), along with All-Conference honorees Elita Silins (7-2 Doubles & 6-3 Singles), Elise Semmartin (5-2 Doubles & 7-2 Singles) Courtney Fyvie (8-2 Doubles & 6-1 Singles) and Ombeline Robilliart (4-1 Doubles & 7-2 Singles). Kateryna Kryuchkova, Sun Zhuoxuan and Mar Caneves Bufi round out a very talented Spartans roster.
And Then There Were Four: The second semifinal matchup of the 2024 East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship Tournament on Friday will feature the No. 4 seeded Daemen University Wildcats taking on the No. 1 seed and hosts Queens College at 12:00 p.m. The winners of Friday's semifinals will square off in the East Coast Conference final on Saturday (October 26) at 5:00 p.m. The winner of the tournament will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship, which will be held May 2025.
