Win Streak Reaches Six As Women's Tennis Blanks Post, 7-0

Middlebury, Conn. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team posted its fifth shutout victory in six tries with a 7-0 blanking of non-conference opponent Post University on Sunday at the Edgewood Bath and Tennis Club.

STAC remains perfect, improving to 6-0 on the year, while Post falls to 3-12.

STAC opened things up with a strong performance in doubles play, taking all three matchups by identical 6-0 scores to secure the team doubles point. The duo of Courtney Fyvie & Elita Silins beat Megan Lombardt & Julie Merlin at No. 1, followed by Elise Semmartin & Mar Caneves Bufi taking a win from Gioia Turco & Romy Leussink at the No. 1 position. Finally, No. 2 Anaya Brons & Kateryna Kryuchkova dropped the hammer on Annelein Van Urk & Melanie Leussink to close out pairs play.

Once the Spartans secured the doubles point, there was no turning back. St. Thomas Aquinas jumped right into singles play, taking all six singles matches from the Eagles, to secure a win on the day. Kateryna Kryuchkova started the victory spree in the No. 4 slot, taking a victory from Melanie Leussink. Mar Caneves Bufi followed the trend taking a 6-0, 6-0 triumph in the No. 3 slot from Romy Leussink to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 lead roughly halfway through the afternoon. Anaya Brons took a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 1 spot against Megan Lombardt to clinch the overall team victory, opening the door for No. 2 Courtney Fyvie vs. Julie Merlin (Win: 6-3, 6-1), No. 3 Ombeline Robilliart vs. Annelein Van Urk (Win: 6-0, 6-1) and No. 6 Sun Zhuoxuan vs. Gioia Turco (Win: 6-0, 6-0) to keep the shutout victory intact.

THE ROCKHILL REPORT

"This was a good effort for the team today," stated Head Coach Dan Rockhill. "I am glad the players had their focus and played hungry."

"Our doubles pairs were much more aggressive and took a giant step forward. We have capable volleyers that were able to win a lot of points at the net. Basically, we try to stick to what works."

"Everyone played well today but our three through six were terrific," commented Rockhill. "Kat (Kryuchkova), Mar (Caneves Bufi) and Ombeline (Robilliart) were very strong. They controlled most points and made few mistakes. Sun (Zhuoxuan), however, stood out today. She was crushing her forehand and moving extremely well."

"I like the identity this team is building. They are coachable and are developing good habits."

"We now turn our focus to the "indoor segment" of the season," remarked Rockhill.
