Haines City, Fla. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Tennis team got back on track Thursday, taking a 4-3 decision against Minnesota State University Moorhead at Lake Eva Community Park in Central Florida. 

STAC improves to 8-4 on the season, while MSUM falls to 7-3.

The Spartans opened the match, dropping two of three doubles bouts to the Dragons. Mar Caneves Bufi & Elise Semmartin put their team on the right path by defeating Izabela Flores & Lakia Manska, 6-0 at No. 3. However, Minnesota State Moorhead would respond with two straight triumphs via No. 1 Shaelyn Johnson & Luzmary Diaz Castillo over Courtney Fyvie & Elita Silins, 6-4 and No. 2 Sophia Felderman & Tiannah Gu besting Kateryna Kryuchkova & Sun Zhuoxuan, 6-4.

Once the focus shifted to singles competition, it was the maroon and gold who would surge with four straight wins to clinch the day's events. No. 5 Mar Caneves Bufi shut out Isabella Flores 6-0, 6-0, No. 6 Sun Zhuoxuan blanked Lakia Manska 6-0, 6-0, No. 3 Elise Semmartin cruised to victory over Katryna Hansen 6-1, 6-1 and No. 4 Kateryna Kryuchkova took down Sophia Felderman 6-2, 6-0. Minnesota State Moorhead continued to compete to the end, despite the Spartans having things well in hand. No. 1 Shaelyn Johnson beat Elita Silins 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (7) and No. 2 Luzmary Diaz Castillo bested Courtney Fyvie 6-0, 6-4 to narrow their deficit and loss to 4-3.
