Spartans Close Inaugural 2018 Season At National Championships

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Triathlon team concluded their inaugural 2018 season at the NCAA/USA Women's Triathlon National Championships in Tempe, Arizona on Sunday.

The field, which was entirely comprised of Division I and II athletes, showcased some of the best collegiate runners, bikers and swimmers who qualified via their respective regional championship events.

On the day, the Spartan squad had a respectible showing, as athletes Sylvie Bischof, Mary Dristle, Kristie Hanlon, Jennyfer Huerta, Amber Lubaszka, Tyiana Nunez and Jadyn Vargas each made significant contributions to the team's first-ever National Championship appearance, as they have done all season long.

Head Coach George Erzao remarked "I cannot be more proud of this group of women. They have worked hard all season long; whether it was during our early morning training sessions or at each of our five events, they stepped up and wore the maroon and gold with pride as they each performed in our first year of competition. I can't wait to take the next steps forward in building and development of this team. We will take a couple of weeks just to reflect on this past season, but after that, the work for next season will quickly begin."

With only one senior, Amber Lubaszka graduating in the spring, the 2019 roster of the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Triathlon team will look largely the same, as Head Coach George Erazo and his staff will welcome back seven returners and will look to add quality recruits to the mix of an already young and talented group.
