2021 Season Preview: Women's Triathlon Looks to Build on Successes of 2018 & 2019 Seasons

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Triathlon team returns to action for the 2021 season with high expectations, as the program looks to a new head coach and a retooled roster to propel them to the same accomplishments seen by the program in both 2018 and 2019.

When the Spartans last competed in 2019, STAC made both Regional and National Championship appearances for the second consecutive season. A summer of roster rebuilding and high hopes continued postseason successes were dashed in 2020 when the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, almost 22 months since the Spartans last event, there is reason to celebrate. Triathlon is back and new Head Coach Anthony Muscarello has his team focused and ready to battle this season.

STAC returns two triathletes from their 2019 championship run, including; Sylvie Bischof (Sr./Melbourne, Australia) and Georgina Thomatos (Jr./Capetown, South Africa). Meanwhile, Samantha Biss (Sr./Ringwood, N.J.), and Phoebe Hemmerling (So./Baton Rouge, La) joined the team in 2020, while Hanna Jung (Fr./Siegen, Germany) becomes the newest member of the roster for the upcoming season.

Head Coach Anthony Muscarello will be at the helm for the Spartans in 2021-2022. Former Spartan Triathlete in Amber Lubaszka returns for her second full season as Assistant Coach.

STAC will open the new season on September 19 at the Buzzards Bay Triathlon in Westport, Massachusetts, with the day's events scheduled to get underway at 9am.
