STAC Women's Volleyball Suffers 3-1 Road Loss At Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team kicked off a three-match road stand by making the short trip across the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge on Saturday for an ECC matchup with Mercy College at the Neil Judge Student Athlete Center.

A tough Mavericks squad won the first two sets, before the Spartans were able to take the third and avoid a sweep. However, the hosts from Westchester County ultimately closed things out with a triumph in the fourth set to take a 3-1 victory.

STAC falls to 5-11 overall and 0-5 in ECC action, while Mercy improves to 7-5 and 1-3.

How it Happened

  • As a team, Mercy recorded 62 kills compared to STAC's 35. The Mavericks also had 7.5 blocks and 58 assists, while the Spartans tallied 6 blocks and 33 assists.
  • Mercy outhit STAC by a .377 to .232 margin for the match.
  • Evie Paalman led the Spartans offense with a team-high 12 kills. She also registered two service aces, seven digs and two block assists.
  • Lea Venghaus recorded 30 serve assists (7.5 assists/set). Venghaus also accumulated three kills and seven digs for the maroon and gold.
  • Greta Santini tallied nine kills, seven digs and two block assists on the afternoon.
  • Dahiana Garcia Atuesta posted two assists, a service ace and nine digs against the Mavericks.
  • Chloe Weiting added to the Spartans totals with four kills, an assist, four digs and a block assist.
  • Christianna Roberts accumulated six kills over four sets on Saturday.
