Women's Volleyball Ends Season With 3-1 Senior Day Loss To Molloy

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Volleyball team wrapped up their 2024 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Molloy University, 3-1, at the Spartan Athletic Complex in the Lower Hudson Valley.

STAC finishes up its campaign at 7-18 overall and 1-11 in ECC play, while Molloy improves to 14-12 and 5-7 to close out its year.

Prior to the match, the Spartans honored their lone graduating senior; Lea Venghaus with on-court ceremonies, which included the athlete's family, friends, teammates, coaches and college administrators.

Once the contest got underway, the visiting Lions picked up an opening set victory, before the Spartans tied things up in the set two. However, Molloy would power their way to victories in sets three and four to take the team triumph.

How it Happened

  • As a team, Molloy recorded 48 kills compared to STAC's 44. The Lions also had 6 blocks and 47 assists, while the Spartans tallied 7 blocks and 42 assists.
  • STAC outhit Molloy by a .184 to .170 margin for the match.
  • Greta Santini led the Spartans offense with a match-high 18 kills. Santini also registered an assist, five digs and two block assists.
  • Lea Venghaus recorded 36 serve assists (9.0 assists/set). Venghaus also accumulated a kill, two service aces, a match-high 14 digs and two block assists for the maroon and gold.
  • Evie Paalman tallied 10 kills, five digs and two block assists on the afternoon.
  • Chloe Weiting posted six kills and 11 digs against the Lions.
  • Isis Barrett added to the Spartans totals with five kills, three service aces, a dig and five block assists.
  • Christianna Roberts totaled four kills, two digs and two block assists in the season finale.
  • Kaylin Hamilton racked up a service ace and 11 digs in her four sets for the Spartans.
  • Dahiana Garcia Atuesta and Addison Miller kept the opposition from scoring and the ball in play, as Garcia Atuesta had with two assists and seven digs and Miller posted three assists and seven digs.
