STAC Men & Women Take Fourth in St. Rose Joust

Sarah Callagy's 19:01 finish (4th place) secured fourth place for the Lady Spartans while Mike Galonski's 7th place finish in 26:21 led the Spartan runners to the same team standing.  Both teams had an excellent showing overall in the St. Rose Joust.  The joust is a unique race in that there are two separate starting lines that are located directly across from one another. With half the teams at each line, they begin the race running directly at one another, but then feed into a single route for the remainder of the race.

Callagy ran an excellent race battling with the leader right from the start.  She held her position and established herself as one of the top competitors for the day.  Freshman Keeley Bateman finished 11th overall in 19:28.  Junior Chelsea Klinger kept Bateman in sight earning herself 15th place in 20:08.  The final two Lady Spartan runners, Lauren Karpoich and Lisa Brevogel worked together to solidify the fourth place finish, crossing the line in 22:13 and 22:36 respectively.  STAC finished one place ahead of NCAA DII East Region opponent College of St. Rose who was ranked #7 in the East region on last week's USTFCCCA poll.

The Spartan men also had an excellent race with a fourth place finish in a strong competitive field.  They were two points away from second place in a race where second went to the College of St. Rose with 86 points, third went to LeMoyne College with 87 points and STAC followed with 88 points.  While Galonski set the pace, Vinny Modafferi and Einar Brissing posted solid times.  Modafferi finished in 12th place in 27:21 followed by Brissing in 27:56.  Freshman Mike Kraus was next in 29:04 and sophomore Garvenchy Nicolas was the final scorer in 29:28.

The Spartan runners return to action on November 7th at the East Coast Conference Championship at C.W. Post.  The men's race is scheduled to begin at 10 AM followed by the women's race at 11:00 AM.
