Galonski, Bateman Lead the Way at the Codfish Bowl

Seniors Michael Galonski and Keeley Batman continued to shine as their squad's lead runners as both teams took 5th in the 2013 Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass.  Facing top East Region competition, STAC got a look at the course where the 2013 East Regional will be run.

In the men's race, Galonski (5th collegiate finisher), worked with junior Joseph Chegwidden as the two finished the race in 26:48 and 27:01.  Senior Matthew Buell crossed the next for the Spartans in 28:53.  Freshmen took the next three spots for STAC with Ryan Gasser posting a 29:16, Stephen McNiff finishing at 30:09 and Chris Panepinto coming through at 31:13.  While the Spartans finished in 5th overall, they were 3rd against DII competition.

Bateman's time of 19:43 was good for a 13th place finish against collegiate competitors.  Sophomores Meagan Jaskot and Gabby Sloezen took on the new course in times of 20:21 and 20:31.  The Lady Spartans have continued to work in a pack with the next 4 runners finishing within a 14 second window.  Sophomore Rebecca Fortoul and freshmen Jumana Khatib and Meaghan Ventarola finished in 212:02, 21:02 and 21:06 respectively.  Sophomore Cecelia Pfleging was next to cross the line in 21:16.  The Lady Spartans had a strong showing against four ranked teams in the region.
