Spartan Cross Country Hosts Alumni Race

The St. Thomas Aquinas Cross Country program welcomed back their alumni with a competitive 5K challenge.  Senior Mike Galonski broke his own home course record at Tallman State Park with a time of 16:05.  Senior Keeley Bateman and sophomore Meagan Jaskot coasted to the finish in tandem in 19:40.  Assistant Coach Andrew Gangemi was the winner for the alumni team.

This race marks the only competition in which the Spartans and Lady Spartans run together.  Joseph Chegwidden (16:20) and Ryan Gasser (16:55) performed well for the men while Jumana Khatib (20:28), Rebecca Fortoul (20:28) and Meghan Ventarola (20:29) rounded out the top 5 for the women.

"This annual race is a a great opprtunity to bridge the gap between our past runners and our current team.  I appreciate the dedication of our alumni and their constant support," commented 6th year head coach Nicole Ballou.  "Our former Spartans layed the foundation for our success.  Their involvement is important to us and I look forward to seeing them at our next alumni event."
